Rabbi Shmuel Landau was a posek and communal rabbi in Prague, the son of Rabbi Yechezkel Landau. He continued his father’s halachic and communal legacy, serving in the Prague rabbinate. He produced responsa and chiddushim that circulated in manuscript and were later used in editions of his father’s works. His position connected the traditional rabbinic leadership of Prague with emerging modern frameworks of Jewish communal governance in the Habsburg Empire.
