A talmid of Rabbi Shmuel Shmelke of Nikolsburg, Rabbi Shmuel Kelin served as rabbi of Boskovice, Moravia. He is primarily known for his supercommentary Machatzis HaShekel on the Magen Avraham commentary to the Shulchan Arukh, Orach Chayim. This work became a standard text for clarifying the Magen Avraham and is printed in most editions of the Mishnah Berurah.
