Biography

Rabbi Shimon Yitzchak Leib Sofer served as the Rav of Eger (Erlau), Hungary, and was a grandson of the Chasam Sofer through his father, Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyomin Sofer, the Ksav Sofer. He led the Eger community from 1881 until the Second World War, a community that later became identified with the Erlau Chasidic dynasty. He was murdered in Auschwitz along with his community.
