Rabbi Shabsai Bass was the founder of Jewish bibliography and author of the Sifsei Chachamim, a supercommentary on Rashi's Torah commentary. He established the first Hebrew printing press in Dyhernfurth in 1689 and published numerous Jewish works there. His Sifsei Yeshenim provided a comprehensive listing of Hebrew printed books.
