Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, a great-grandson of the Ba'al Shem Tov, founded the Breslov Chasidic movement. He introduced novel spiritual concepts, emphasizing joyful faith, the necessity of the tzaddik, and the practice of hitbodedut, a form of secluded, extemporaneous prayer. His primary discourses were transcribed by his disciple, Rabbi Noson Sternhartz, in Likkutei Moharan, and his mystical allegories are collected in Sippurei Ma'asiyot. His gravesite in Uman, Ukraine, is a major pilgrimage destination for his followers.
