Rabbi Moshe de Trani, known as the Mabit, was a leading halachic authority in 16th-century Tzfat. Born in Saloniki to a family exiled from Apulia, Italy, he moved to Tzfat as a young man and served as a dayan alongside Rabbi Yosef Karo. His Beis Elokim is a foundational work on the philosophy of tefillah, teshuvah, and Torah.
