Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, known by the acronym Ramchal, was an Italian kabbalist, philosopher, and rhetorician. His early mystical activities and claims of receiving instruction from a maggid led to rabbinic investigations that compelled him to cease teaching Kabbalah. His writings, including the ethical treatise Mesillas Yesharim, the theological primer Derech Hashem, and the kabbalistic dialogue Da'as Tevunos, influenced Jewish thought.
