Rabbi Moshe Chagiz was born in Yerushalayim to a rabbinic family. He traveled to Europe to raise funds for the yeshivos of Eretz Yisrael and settled in Amsterdam, where he became a rabbinic figure in the Sephardic community. He defended rabbinic authority and led campaigns against Sabbatean movements and Nechemya Chayon.
