Rabbi Moshe Alashkar was a leading halachic authority born in Spain who later served as rabbi in Cairo, Egypt, after the expulsion. His collection of responsa, Shu"t Maharam Alashkar, is a key resource for understanding the legal and social challenges faced by the Sephardic exiles. He was also a kabbalist and philosopher.
