Biography

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, known as the Tzemach Tzedek after his multi-volume compendium of halacha bearing that title, served as the third Rebbe of the Chabad-Lubavitch Chasidic movement. He authored Derech Mitzvotecha, a mystical exposition of the mitzvos, and compiled and published major works of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, including Siddur Im Dach, Likutei Torah, and Torah Ohr. As a leading 19th-century posek, he engaged in political, economic, and spiritual efforts to aid his community, including establishing Chevras Techiyas Hameisim to support Jewish Cantonist soldiers.
