Rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen was a leading halachic authority and Rosh Yeshiva in Padua, Italy. A cousin to the Rema and Maharshal, he served as Chief Rabbi of Padua for decades. His landmark edition of the Mishneh Torah sparked a printing dispute that contributed to the 1553 burning of the Talmud in Rome.
