Biography

Rabbi Manoach Hendel ben Shemaria was a distinguished Talmid Chacham and a close student of the Maharshal and the Rama who served as a Rosh Yeshiva in Lvov and eventually as the Rav of Vienna . He authored the very first commentary on the ethical classic Chovos HaLevavos and wrote Chochmas Manoach, a collection of Talmudic glosses that famously utilized detailed geometric and architectural diagrams to explain complex passages . Shortly before his passing, he was a leading figure alongside the SM"A in the famous "Get of Vienna" case, an unconditional divorce intended to save a woman from needing chalitza
