Rabbi Isser Yehuda Unterman was the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel and a communal rav. After serving as a Rosh Yeshiva and rav in Eastern Europe, he became Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv–Jaffa, and later Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel. His derashot, responsa, and public rulings addressed issues of modern society, law, and the developing institutions of the Jewish state.
