Rabbi Ephraim HaKohen was a dayan and posek who served communities in Lithuania, Moravia, and Hungary in the 17th century. He is known for his book of responsa, Sha'ar Ephraim, which contains his halachic rulings and was published posthumously. Towards the end of his life, he accepted an invitation to become the chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Jerusalem, a position his grandfather had held, but he passed away in 1678 before he could assume the role.
