Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi was the leading rabbinic authority of the Ottoman Empire in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, serving as Hakham Bashi in Constantinople. He authored a primary supercommentary on Rashi's commentary on the Torah, and is considered one of its three main classical interpreters. In addition to his leadership of the community and a yeshiva, he was also an accomplished scholar of mathematics and astronomy.
