Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler was an Orthodox rabbi, Talmudic scholar, and Jewish philosopher who served as mashgiach of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. A leading figure in the Musar movement and a talmid of Rabbi Simcha Zissel Ziv, the Alter of Kelm, he integrated ethical teachings with Kabbalah and Chasidic thought. His collected letters and essays, edited posthumously by his talmidim Rabbi Aryeh Carmell and Rabbi Chaim Friedlander as the six-volume Michtav me-Eliyahu, address free will, love, and divine service.
