Rabbi Rabbi Eliyahu Baruch Kamai served as the Rav of Mir and Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir Yeshiva from 1899 until his death. He introduced the formal study of mussar into the yeshiva's curriculum, viewing it as a necessary response to the influence of secular movements. Under his leadership and that of his successors—his son Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Kamai and son-in-law Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel—the yeshiva entered a golden age and grew to five hundred students.
