Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk was a foundational rebbe of the Chasidic movement in Poland and Galicia and author of the Chasidic text Noam Elimelech. A disciple of Rabbi Dov Ber of Mezeritch, he articulated the doctrine of the tzaddik as mediator between God and the people, establishing Lizhensk as a central Chasidic hub. His talmidim included leading rebbes such as Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz, Rabbi Yisrael Hopsztajn, and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov.
