Rabbi Dovid Lifshitz studied under Rabbi Shimon Shkop in Grodno before serving as the community rabbi of Suwałki, Poland. He escaped Nazi-occupied Europe via Japan and arrived in the United States in 1941. In 1944, he joined the faculty of Yeshiva Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), where he served as a Rosh Yeshiva for nearly five decades.
