Rabbi Dovid Gans was a scholar, historian, astronomer, and mathematician in Prague. He was a student of Rabbi Yehuda Loew (Maharal) and Rabbi Moshe Isserles (Rema), and maintained a friendship with the astronomer Tycho Brahe. His Tzemach Dovid is a foundational work of Jewish historical chronology.
