Rabbi Rabbi Dov Ber was a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov and his successor as the leader of the Chassidic movement. He did not author works himself; his teachings were compiled by his disciples in influential collections, most notably Maggid Devarav L'Yaakov, which was edited at his request during his lifetime. From his court in Mezritch, he systematized Chassidic thought and dispatched his circle of disciples who were instrumental in spreading the movement throughout Eastern Europe.
