Rabbi David Tevele Schiff was the Chief Rabbi of the Great Synagogue in London and the de facto head of English Ashkenazim. He led the Ashkenazi community in Great Britain during a period of institutional consolidation and demographic growth. A talmid of Rabbi Yaakov Yehoshua Falk, author of Pnei Yehoshua, he had earlier served as maggid in Vienna, rosh beis midrash in Worms, and dayan in Frankfurt before accepting the London rabbinate. His halachic legacy includes the responsa collection Leshon Zahav, published posthumously by his son.
