Biography

Rabbi David Mashriki was a posek and communal rabbi in Sanaa, Yemen. He is known for his halachic commentary Shetilei Zeitim on Shulchan Arukh, Orach Chaim, and his responsa Revid HaZahav. As rabbi of the Sanaa community, he promoted the Shami nusach ha-tefillah and established the Shulchan Arukh as the decisive halachic authority for local practice. His Shetilei Zeitim, first printed in 1744, became a central halachic work among Yemenite Jewry.
