Rabbi David ben Zimra was born in Spain and emigrated to Tzfat after the 1492 expulsion. He later served as the leading rabbinic authority in Egypt, holding the position of Chief Rabbi of Cairo for approximately 40 years. He authored over 3,000 responsa and was a teacher of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria and Rabbi Betzalel Ashkenazi. In his later years, he returned to Tzfat, where he lived until his passing.
