Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Goldvicht was the founding rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh, the first hesder yeshiva in Israel, where he served from its establishment in 1954. He was a talmid of Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, Rabbi Yitzchak Zev Soloveitchik, and Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, and became a central figure in shaping the hesder yeshiva framework that combined intensive Torah study with Israel Defense Forces service. He authored Asufas Ma'arachos, a multi-volume work of chiddushim and derashos on the parshiyos and moadim.
