Rabbi Chaim Palagi was a posek who served as Hakham Bashi, the Chief Rabbi of Smyrna, in the 19th-century Ottoman Empire. He was a prolific author of more than seventy books on halacha, Talmud, and Kabbalah, including the works Kaf HaChaim and Moed L'chol Chai. Appointed to the chief rabbinate by Sultan Abdülmecid I, he held the position until his death and was buried in a state funeral attended by government and military officials.
