Rabbi Rabbi Chaim Heller was a scholar of Talmudic literature and biblical translations who applied rigorous philological methods to defend traditional texts against modern Bible criticism. He authored a critical edition of the Rambam's Sefer HaMitzvos, first published in 1914. After founding the Academy of Higher Jewish Learning in Berlin, he immigrated to the United States in 1937, where he taught at Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Theological Seminary and served as an honorary president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada.
