Biography

Rabbi Chaim Berlin was the eldest son of Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (the Netziv) and served as a communal leader in the Russian Empire and later in Jerusalem. He served as chief rabbi of Moscow and later as chief rabbi of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem. His halachic writings were published posthumously under the title Nishmas Chayim, a multi-volume collection of responsa and other chiddushim.
