Rabbi Baruch HaLevi Epstein was the son of Rabbi Yechiel Michel Epstein, author of Aruch HaShulchan, and nephew of Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Yehuda Berlin of Volozhin. He worked as an accountant while pursuing his scholarly endeavors. His major work, Torah Temimah, is a commentary on the Pentateuch that systematically juxtaposes each verse with its corresponding rabbinic elaborations from the Talmud and Midrash. He also authored Mekor Baruch, a memoir documenting the Lithuanian Torah world of the 19th century. He was murdered during the Holocaust in the Pinsk ghetto.
