Biography

Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, known as the Chazon Ish after his multi-volume work, was a leading halachic decisor for the Haredi community in mid-20th century Eretz Yisrael. After settling in Bnei Brak in 1933, he became a central figure in the Lithuanian yeshiva world, despite never holding a formal rabbinic post. His legal rulings provided guidance on applying Jewish law to modern agriculture, technology, and medicine. His work Chazon Ish remains an influential halachic text.
