Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein was a posek and rosh yeshiva who combined advanced Torah learning with academic training, holding a PhD in English literature from Harvard University. As rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Har Etzion in Alon Shvut and previously at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), he became a central figure in the Torah u-madda and Religious Zionist worlds, and was awarded the Israel Prize in Torah literature in 2014. His writings and numerous collected essays on Torah and values, shaped contemporary Modern Orthodox thought.
